2. BEIC demanded an immediate war compensation of 2.76 lakh pounds from Bengal .

3. BEIC demanded another financial compensation of 22.5 million rupees to be paid between 1757 to 1760 .

Consequence of Plassey plunder

Consequence of Plassey Plunder was that the revenue generated by BEIC was used to finance it’s trading activities in the region and also to bear the cost of maintainable of the British army .

What happened after Plassey plunder ?

By 1760s Mir jafar expressed his inability to meet the huge revenue demands made by the BEIC . Thus , Mir jafar was replaced by Mir Kasim as the Nawab of Bengal in 1760 .

Mir Kasim also found it difficult to meet the huge revenue demands made by BEIC . Thus , by 1763 Mir Kasim planned to assassinate Jagat Seth Brothers .

In order to do so , by 1764 Mir Kasim moved to form a military alliance with Shuja-ud-daula ( Nawab of Awadh ) and Shah Alam 2 ( The central Mughal ruler ) . With the help of this alliance Mir Kasim attempted to overthrow the British from the region . This led to Battle of Buxar of 1764 .

Treaty of Allahabad of 1765

Provisions regarding Awadh

1. BEIC was granted a tax free trading monopoly in the Awadh region .
2. A war compensation of 5 million rupees was demanded from Awadh .

Provisions regarding Bengal

1. BEIC said , Bengal must grant the DIWANI rights to Britishers ( Diwani rights refers to revenue collecting rights ) . However , the NIZAMAT or the administrative powers must continue with the Nawab .
So , in this way DUAL ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE was established in Bengal .

2. BEIC would appoint an observer in the court of Nawab of Bengal . The role of the observer would be to keep a close watch on the activities of the Nawab . So , it becomes obvious from this provision that BEIC would often interfere in the NIZAMAT role of Nawab as well.

It should also be noted here that Mir kasim was removed and Mir jafar was reappointed as Nawab .
Also Shah Alam 2 was forced to retire .

Consequences of Treaty of Allahabad of 1765

1. The treaty strengthened the hold of BEIC over Bengal through dual administrative structure and it established indirect rule in the region .

2. Moreover the BEIC , both through Plassey plunder and Treaty of Allahabad made major financial gains .

3. Thus , both Plassey plunder and the Treaty of Allahabad put together marked the beginning of expansion of British influence in the region .
